Student and Apprentice Membership

Am I eligible for Student and Apprentice membership?

Under BABA’s constitution, Student and Apprentice membership offers reduced rates for eligible applicants.

To qualify, you must be based in the UK and either:

• 18 and under in full time education
  or:
• Enrolled in a further education or higher education blacksmithing course, or related art and design course (ie: metal work, sculpture)
  or:
• Enrolled on the Design and Forgework Skills course
  or:
• A full time blacksmithing apprentice

We do need proof of student or apprentice status to ensure that under the terms of BABA’s constitution you qualify for the reduced rate. This can be in the form of a letter or email from your college or university confirming your acceptance on the course, or a letter or email from your teacher, tutor or employer confirming that you are in education or apprenticed. We also need the start and end dates of your course.

Send your proof to Fred Suffield, the BABA Membership Secretary, at membership@baba.org.uk within 30 days of your application for membership.

If we do not receive proof, we reserve the right to cancel your membership, or change your membership level to Full Membership.

Under the terms of the BABA Constitution, you are entitled to keep your Student and Apprentice Membership for one year after you finish your training or education. If you would like to upgrade to Full Membership you can, and this gives you a 12.5% on insurance from Eastlake and Beachell plus entry in the publicly searchable directory, as well as the benefits you already receive.
