Free Event
Spend the weekend with friends and be part of a cause that will help blacksmithing reach the youth! Consider your good deeds for the year sorted while having a jolly good time hosted by the legend himself, Adrian Legge!
Many of the events BABA are running this year have incorporated forging for children. The idea is to bring blacksmithing to young people who wouldn’t usually get the chance. We hope this will encourage more people to take up blacksmithing and keep our craft thriving for generations to come. Start them young! To do this, we need your help to kit out the kid’s clobber. So, Adrian has kindly offered to host a forge-in for you good folk to come along and help us make some of the kit we need.
List of tools we aim to make:
- Rodded hot cut chisels,
- Rodded ball punches
- Rodded hot cut curved chisels
- Bending jigs
- Small flat bit tongs
- Spring fullers
- Small cross-pein hammers
- Scroll wrenches
- Scroll pliers
- Anvil horns
- Pokers
How about some friendly competition?
The challenge is to make something you can play with. You are encouraged to release your inner child and get silly with it!
The winner gets to keep the entrants!
To participate, all you have to do is donate a tool to the kids’ clobber.
Further information
All necessary tools and materials will be supplied but if you have your own tools (eg. your ‘favourite’ hammer) then please feel free to bring those along.
Tea/coffee/biscuits and breakfast will be provided. Bring something to throw on the BBQ for the evening meal. As is the norm at forge-ins, we hope people will bring a contribution of food for the picnic table for lunch.
Unfortunately, we are unable to cater for alternative dietary needs.
If you’re staying over the weekend free camping (and shower) will be available at Adrian’s home. Turn up on the Friday evening or Saturday morning if you wish.
