A design workshop organised for BABA members
Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October 2024
Venue : Museum of Making, Derby, DE1 1BS
Cost £160.00 Book Here
Led by James Price and Pete Hill
A two day design workshop the aim of which will be to consider basic ideas around the role design in your work and basic drawing skills.
Pete Hill, Ratho Byres Forge, Edinburgh
Pete graduated art school, where he studied 3D design, and has now been involved in the design and forging of contemporary forged metalwork for over 30 years. Alongside Shona Johnson, he currently runs a team of 4 in the production of both architectural work and public art.
James Price, Lewes, East Sussex
James completed an arts degree course, followed by time at Hereford and then as a journeyman before setting up his forge in 2004. Combining original contemporary design and high quality craftsmanship James creates work that is firmly rooted in the present.
The workshop will be a platform to promote the idea of thinking more consciously about design, how it can be a beneficial tool to make your work both stand out from the crowd, keep your work fun and engaging for yourself, and enable you to resolve technical issues before beginning the work. We are hoping that this event will be appealing to less experienced smiths, those new to the craft, those who have done skills based courses or who are self taught.
The workshop will run from 9.30 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
